Deceased Patients

When a patient dies, record the date of death details.

Before you begin

When a patient is flagged as deceased, you cannot create new accounts, schedule appointments or issue new invoices for them. However, you can process existing invoices for the patient.

To mark a patient as deceased, you must have a permission to Mark patient as Deceased in BC Secure > Permissions. For more information, see Permissions.

About this task

Flag a patient as deceased in the Patient Details panel from Patient Explorer.

Procedure

To set a patient as deceased:
  1. Open the patient's record.
  2. If required, from the left pane, select the Patient Details tab.

  3. In the Patient Details panel, set Deceased.
  4. To acknowledge that you will not be able to create new accounts or invoices for this patient if you proceed, click OK.
  5. In the Deceased Date field, enter the date of death.
    Note:
    You cannot enter a date later than the current date, nor earlier than the patient's date of birth.
  6. Click Save iconSave at the top.

Results

The selected patient is set as deceased and you cannot create a new account or invoice for them.
