Upgrading Bluechip

Preparing to update your Bluechip installation.

These instructions are designed for experienced IT professionals. Consult your System Administrator for assistance and advice if you wish to conduct a silent installation.

Note:
If your Bluechip registration expires before the date on which the update is released, you will not be able to update. You can check your registration expiration date in BC Secure by selecting the Practice tab.

You must be running at least Bluechip 4.1 or 4.2 before upgrading to 4.3. If you are unsure, contact MedicalDirector Customer Service for advice.

Ensure that Bluechip is not running on any computer in the practice.

Back up the Bluechip database before you proceed with the upgrade. If you have not already performed a backup, then you should do so now. For more information, see Backup and Restore.

Turn off all antivirus software before proceeding with the upgrade. Ensure that you enable your antivirus software again after completing the Bluechip upgrade.

If you use Bluechip on more than one computer in the practice, upgrade the server computer first; whether or not Bluechip is used on the server. With the server successfully upgraded, you can then proceed with upgrading the workstation computers (also known as clients) that access this server.

It is possible to perform a silent installation of Bluechip which involves installing Bluechip onto multiple workstations simultaneously, and is typically initiated after-hours, unattended. For more information, see Performing a Silent Installation of Bluechip.

On a Terminal Services network, you need only upgrade the server computer to Bluechip 4.3. If you are unsure if you use Terminal Services, ask your IT provider before proceeding with the upgrade.
