Notes on Patient Claiming
- All services in the Patient Claim must be either in-hospital or out-of-hospital;
- When the full amount for the invoice has not been paid, the benefit will be paid to the Practitioner, regardless of the claimant. Claimant details are required so that the cheque can be sent to the Claimant for forwarding to the Practitioner.
- The Claimant can either be the Patient themselves, or another interested party. Interested parties (for example parents) are made available in the Claimant selection of the class setup for this account.
- The Claimant must have a valid date of birth and must be at least 12 years of age.
- The Claimant must have a valid and current Medicare card.
- If the payment is by EFT
- Account Name, BSB, and Account Number fields must have a value or the 'Use Medicare EFT Details' check box is ticked.
- The Claimant's Address must be "Use Medicare Address". (An address is required so that Medicare can send the Claimant a Statement);
- The Claimant must agree to the terms of the "Claimant Declaration" before a Patient Claim can be submitted or stored.
- Updates to the address details of the Claimant 's record will only be applied when the "Update Addressee Record" option is checked and the "Use Medicare Address" option is not checked;
- Addressee address changes will not be maintained between changes of Claimant.
- Once the Send or Store buttons have been clicked, the Patient Claim window will disappear while Medicare processing takes place.
- The claimant must agree to the terms of the Claimant Declaration before a Patient Claim can be processed.
